‘Embrace who they are’: Summer camp teaches young girls sisterhood, braiding skills
It’s summer camp season, and one Charlotte woman is offering a group of girls the chance to build sisterhood while learning to twist, twirl, and tie.

Hunter Sáenz is a reporter for Channel 9 -- covering crime, courts and breaking news. He joined the team in June 2022. He’s no stranger to the Carolinas. Previously, he worked at WCNC-TV for three years, covering local government and politics while also filling-in at the anchor desk. Before moving to Charlotte in 2019, he worked as a general assignment multi-media journalist in Madison, Wisconsin at WKOW-TV. Hunter has covered a wide variety of stories, including the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey hitting his hometown of Houston, Texas. He’s also had a front-row seat while covering tornadoes, historic floods, riots in Milwaukee, home explosions, sporting events, protests, a pandemic, elections and horrific crimes. While in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association awarded him ‘Best Live On-Scene Reporter.’ He loves telling memorable stories, giving a voice to people and creating change through his work that makes our community better. Hunter graduated from Syracuse University after studying broadcast and digital journalism at S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications. He has a minor in political science. When he’s not working, Hunter enjoys spending time with his friends, family and dogs. You may spot Hunter around local restaurants and breweries, trying new dishes and drinks. He also loves going to plays and musicals, creating art himself, and running and biking. He also enjoys trips to the beach, the mountains and traveling whenever he can.
